Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day is celebrated every year on January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and participating in literacy-related activities as a family. Since 1999, schools, libraries, literacy organizations, and community groups nationwide have taken part in this initiative.

The theme for Family Literacy Day 2025 is “Learn to Be Green, Together!” This year, we encourage families to make a pledge to learn ways to be more environmentally friendly. Simple actions such as using less electricity, commuting together, and reusing items can make a big difference. Learning to be green together is not only fun but also a meaningful way to care for the planet as a family.”

To celebrate this special day, our OLF Luke 4:18 group will be hosting a “Bring a Book, Take a Book” Exchange on Monday, January 27.

We invite students to donate 1-2 gently loved books (e.g., picture books, young novels, or graphic novels) between January 21 and January 25. These books will be added to a shared collection for students to browse through during the exchange.

On January 27, students will have the chance to choose 1-2 books to bring home and keep, inspiring their imaginations and encouraging them to immerse themselves in the joys of reading.

Thank you for supporting literacy in our school community. We look forward to celebrating Family Literacy Day with our students and seeing the excitement this event brings!
